ah yes ....i too have had problems with the ABS modulator. Mine has been lit for about 2 years. It's independant of the regular braking system so when the light is on, there is no ABS. Pump (modulator) replacement is more than $1000 for a unit at the dealer. My feeling is that the LX model didnt have ABS (back in 1995), I learned how to drive a car without ABS (and i live in slippery michigan)....so I decided to live without ABS. If Ican find a cheap used modulator at a junk yard and someone to install it...i may do it. The problem is ...was it a functioning unit when it landed in the junk yard?

$1000 is cheap compared to what my dealer wants.

My ABShas the "Pump Over-Run " error code and the dealer says both the Modulator and the pump (the canister looking thing next to the modulator assembly) need repalcement, to the tune of $1500+. Needless to say I politely declined.

When the light first came on many years ago, I was able to just top-off the ABS reservoir and the light would saty off for ~ 3 to 4 months at the time. But after about 2 years of doing this, the trick stopped working.May be I overfilled it!!

I wish there was an easy way to disable the annoying ABS light.

Aw man did I pay too much for my car then? Paid 5.5k cash for it last July. Its a 97 LX with sunroof with 90k miles at the time. Car looked extremely well kept for its age. Needed a timing belt change and the 90k service so that was another $500. The main reason I got it was because everything checked out with the mechanic my dad brought and owner had a complete service record of the car at the local honda dealer.
Nahhh you didn't pay too much IMO since the car had impecable service records, etc..
I bought my 2000 with no service records whatsoever.I think the sticker was still on it from the last oil change though haha! It was like 15 miles left till the oil change was due. Obviously the people that traded it in wanted to get rid of it before they did the 100k maintenance. The small dealer I bought it from got it at an auction. He was kind of a jerk, but he still gave it to me for a pretty good deal IMO.
