Question about heat

So on my 97 accord I turned the knob from cold to hot and felt something let go and there's no heat. I was thinking it was the cable that goes to the heater control valve, so I went under the hood and manually moved the valve and still no heat, so then I took it off and turns out it is functioning properly, so heater valves back on and open. Is there a flap or something in the dash that the knob turns to change from hot air to cold air as well as move the cable? That's the only thing I can think of. Do I then have to take the dash apart to fix it. I need to fix this quick before it gets cold again. Thanks.

Check that the knob you turn didn't crack.

I think the cable from the heat knob controls the coolant valve in the engine bay and also the air mix door. The common diy thread on top of the gen tech forum has a link to online shop manuals. The hondahookup site has a 94 shop manual you can download. The heater unit is the same as your 97 accord.

Oh. So the heater knob controls a door? That's gotta be it because the heater valve is working. Thanks! So I'm guessing gotta pull the dash apart?

The knob I was talking about is the one you turn with your hand to adjust the heat. The knob just pulls off. It is not uncommon for them to crack. It is a quick and simple test.

If that knob is ok, then you will have to get into the dash and look at the attachment points of the cable that is adjusted by the heater control.

from the passenger side floor board, pull the carpet back by the console, there is a blend door there (on mine there is)
