Question About-Maybe ?

Try putting in 7 Quarts if it's dry then run it and then top it off..or try looking it up in the search forum..

All the specs I've ever seen give the total capacity (about 7 quarts) not just the radiator.

Ok...let me further explain. I presently have the Rad out of the car...I suspect a partial blockage. I'm giving the white distilled vinegar a shot to see if it will clear any blockage. The Rad is accepting less than a quart of the vinegar, hence my question.

If I knew the capacity of the Rad it would give me some idea of the severity of any blockage.

Seems like it should take a lot more than a quart, but that's just a WAG.

You could also run a garden hose to see how it handles all that water flowing through.

I've already done the garden hose stunt....that's what led me to the partial blockage theory. The flow-thru was somewhat restricted and a back-flush did not improve things.

It is really amazing that after scouring the 'Net this info remains elusive

when you drain and refill the radiator, it takes around 3 qts,,, but to be honest with you i do not know the exact amount cause i just fill it till it is full and bleed it ..

That sounds reasonable. Extrapolating from that, and estimating the capacity of the lower and upper hoses and partial block drainage, the rad should be around a quart. Seems kinda tight that only that amount of coolant is being cooled, at discrete intervals, during the flow cycle

Overheating problem solved. The rad was partially blocked. White distilled vinegar (soaked overnight) cleared up everything nicely. The capacity of the rad is just about a quart. Now temp is stabilized at just above a quarter.
