ok, the fans FINALLY pulled their little running stunt again. I unplugged the coolant temp. sensor and the fans turned off.

If that made the fans turn off, then it seems like it's that fan switch that's sticking.

If you get a new switch, be prepared to put the new one in quickly so you don't loose too much antifreeze. Or use this as an excuse to drain & fill with fresh antifreeze.

It is the green two pin switch on the t-stat, #14 in the pic in this thread. Also I hope that is the one you disconnected that turned the fans off.

Well this is where everyones terminology might differ, and splitting hairs.

One of the reasons we always try to describe the switch and location. I won't get into that as it will just get more confusing.

Main thing, have a good idea of the one that seems like it needs to be replaced.

One last question, coolant level is fine right now.

ok I am seeing the difference now. what is referred to as the coolant temp. sensor sits in the front where the top radiator hose goes into the block, and the radiator fan switch is what is mounted in the thermostat housing. and that is the one I should replace, yes?

You unplugged the one in the T-stat housing & that made the fans turn off, right? So that's the one you need to replace. It's called the "Fan Switch A".
