Radio won't turn on

Hi everyone,

My 2006 EX-L Honda Accord Radio (with built-in xm satellite radio) does not work AT ALL.
Absolutely NOTHING comes on when i put the keys in the ignition and turn the engine on. I am very very worried. This occurred as a result of me trying to install a GTA car kit for my iPod touch onto the auxillary outlet of the radio.

I think I might have found the auxillary outlet under the radio, but it was blocked by a tightly fitted metal plate. I wanted to remove the radio, but the underlying two screws beneath the stereo were too tight for me to remove. So I tried to pry open the metal plate with a screwdriver, but then I saw a bright spark for a split second. I became worried and tried to turn on the stereo, and that's when I realized that I might have busted it.

However, my A/C still works, but I see no display.

Should I get a new fuse for the radio? Should I reset the radio fuse in the car's fuse box?

I am very very concerned about this. Please help!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!

Did you just blow the radio fuse?

First step would be to check the fuse.

sparks are never good, if you are VEEERRYY lucky it's just a fuse, ....if not, well get out the wallet. i'm sure i've said this to a million people 2 million times...disconnect the battery when you do electrical work!

looks like this.
AC works just fine as indicated by the green and orange lights.

display not coming up.
radio not working
CD not working.

should i disconnect the cables from the battery and re-connect them?
or should i open up the fuse box and remove/insert fuses?

thanks

Did you check the fuse that redbull suggested?

billyspvy 08-18-2012 07:11 PM

yes i did check the fuse box. but what exactly am i lookiing for? lol. do i remove the fuses with a pair of forceps/tweezers?

That fuse that is labeled in redbull's post is the one you need to pull. Use a small pair of needle nose pliers to pull it out.

You look at the metal wire inside to see if it burned out.

Here is a pic of two blown fuses I found on the web. The one on the right is blown too. A good fuse will be a continuous piece of metal.

appreciate all the help! i did in fact turn out to be just a blown fuse. so relieved! i seriously thought i totaled my radio when i saw that spark when i tried to pry it open with a screwdriver, and i thought i just made it worse when i took the radio apart and accidently removed the ribbon-like cable on the board. lol.

turns out it was just a blown fuse. must be careful next time. again, i really am grateful for your help!!!
