I would not think that premium fuel to be necessary for the LX, certainly 86 octane should be sufficient

Three possibilities:
  • The timing is far too advanced compared to factory spec.
  • The timing belt jumped a tooth.
  • One or more burned intake valves.

I'm moving this over to General Tech. The "new member" forum is mostly for welcome & introductions.

Initially, no, but as time goes on the issue should worsen.

Running premium won't help your engine. You can save money by using regular octane and run the fuel injector cleaner occasionally.

My suggestion to diagnose the problem is to take a look at the PCM data. The 96 accord was first to get an OBD2 connector that is behind the ashtray. You may want to purchase a cheap scanner or a bluetooth OBD2 reader and monitor with your cell phone.

To be honest with u I save more money using premium it cost less to fill up with premium than regular or mid-grade it cost me 30 to fill up with regular before and since I been using premium it only cost no more than $22 and I only get my fuel from one gas station it's bp
