Unhappy HELP! Damsel is distressed! "S" light on in '91 Accord and 125 miles from home!

Hello and THANK YOU for giving me some advice! The "S" light in my '91 Accord (automatic) came on the other day, and it feels like I'm starting out in 2cnd or 3rd gear from a stop. Once am up to speed, seems fine, though haven't gone over 40-45mph. I am over 125 miles from home, and my trusted mechanic.
Am I safe to drive home? Are parts going to start falling off the car along 71N in Ohio? Am in Cincinnati, and will need to get back to Hocking Hills. Obviously, I'm freaking out just a little bit here....you have no idea what mental pictures are running around my brain!

S light usually indicates an electrical fault in auto trans parts. Some are repairable.

You should be OK to drive home, but no one can garuntee you won't run into problems that affect drivability to point you can't drive.

good luck

Let's just hope if I DO need a AAA tow, it's within 50 miles of home!

S light might mean the replacement of the upper and lower transmision solenoid.

The battery was dead the other day, and the light was off and all was good when we jumped it. But day after that, light was on again. I found some wires wrapped in old electrical tape hanging down on the passenger side floor. Took that old stuff off, re-connected and re-taped (temporary fix) and jiggled them. Heard a click and the light is back off. Until I am finished with my business in Cincy and can get back to the country and my mechanic, this will have to do! Thank you both for replying!

You can jump the service check connector on the passenger side with a wire to retrieve the trouble codes by counting the flashes.

A common problem with your generation Accord is the Transmission Control Unit (TCU). See link:

Exclamation 91 Accord Sport light on and stuck in Park!

Hello! I recently had a question regarding my Sport light being on. Last night, it took a few minutes, both hands and all my strength to get the car into Park. Ran an errand this morning, (S light on the whole time) and came home. Same issue getting it into Park. Few minutes later, I started the car to move it so my friend could put replace my leaky radiator, and now the car is stuck in Park! Took about 5 minutes to even be able to push in the button to try and shift out of park. Neighbor came over, put a key in the shift lock button, and with both hands and all his strength, he managed to get it down into D4, the N, the R, and took a while to get it back into Park. So, before risking doing further damage, we got it back into Park, and now I wish my parents kept cold beer in the house (LOL)!
So, my question...could the S light being on and being stuck in Park be related?
