...if I change out the catalytic converter on my '96 Accord EX Coupe with a "high flow" cat, that it will cause the check engine light to come on...

What's the story on this?

I'm NO expert here but the only way I see that happening is if the new one didn't hook up exactly as the old one did. For instance, whatever connectors or sensors are on the old (if any) must be matched by the new part. If there are specific procedures to follow from Honda then do so.

Those with more knowledge will chime in soon enough, be patient.

The only way I can think of it doing that is if you disconnected/removed the O2 sensor that's on/behind the cat...

i installed a maganflow hi-flow cat in my old GSR and it threw a CEL. its a chance you take.
