Should I use something other than Mobil1
Hi All,
My 95 Accord V-tec is hitting 142,000 miles, I have been usingMobil1 5W-30 since the car had 15000 Miles on it and have been changing oil and filter every 5K.
Now I am wondering with the engine getting older should I just stick with the ususal diet, or is there a synthetic 5W-30 oil out there that has better additives for protecting this older engine from wear and so forth?
P.S. I plan to keep the car for at least another 142,000 miles.

Stick with what works.....no need to change.
I use dino 10w30(valvoline high mileage)in both of my accords. I'm not even going to bother switching to synthetic since what I am using works just fine.

Isn't changing the oil every 5k miles pushing it a little? Do you do mostly freeway driving with little traffic? I've always been told that it is best to change it at 3k miles to have a better chance of the engine lasting longer and to protect the seals.

That is excatly what I do. 5K mile oil change with Mobil 1 5w30. Dont forget to rotate those tires too.
Always used mobil 1. Never gave me any trouble (110k miles on the clock and original owner)
The new Pilot recommends 10k mile change with synthetic, I like it! Even better than 5k mi change

Not for a synthetic like M1. 6-7.5K miles is acceptable.

valvoline synpower full synthetic is a better oil in general than mobil 1, but royal purple and amsoil are the best oils.
stay away from the high-mileage oils, the additives usually do more harm than good, such as allowing air to mix with the oil. (bad)

I don't think he is using synthetic because he was asking if switching to synthetic is going to be better for his engine.
