Default Side mirror loose

This is my first post. I am the 3rd owner of 1999 Accord 4 cyl VTEC AT with 236000 miles. I have already dealt with some maintenance issues expected on such a high-mileage car in the few months I've owned it. A few days ago I was standing near the car parked in the driveway when I heard a loud noise which sounded like a rock striking the driver's side of the car. What I found surprised me ...the foldable mirror was loose and could be raised an inch or so above the mount; apparently a spring inside under great force had let loose. I tied a piece of bungee cord arround the mirror base and everything has worked normally. Checking the internet I found two solutions: buy a junkyard mirror OR fix the clip that holds the spring( not so easy to do). Before I dismantle the thing I would like to know if anyone has any useful suggestions.
Thanks, Jake.

Default Side mirror glued

Decided to glue the mirror housing to the base as a temporary repair until I find another mirror. Used 3M super weatherstrip adhesive which is still holding after 2 days. I really don't care if the mirror folds or not; after all, not one of my previous cars had a foldable mirror. Jake

I fixed my mirror on my old Ford Focus by using PL400 construction adhesive.
That repair ended up lasting longer than any of the brake drum/rotors/hardware; springs, bushing(s); gaskets; heat-shield, fuel pump(s); hood latch; tie-rods, end-links; axle/CV Joints; muffler/tailpipe and wheel bearing(s) repairs that it needed.

Yeah, the folding mirrors are only useful for packing the cars more tightly together on a ship.
