Hey Guys,

We just got this 04 LX 4cyl, auto from my father. I like it, but the maintenance required light is staying on. The vehicle has 77k mi. on it, and the motor oil(according to dad) was changed during the last mileage/service interval. What would you do?

I'm thinking about changing the oil again, and resetting that light. If it comes back on, then there's some other issue.

If I change the oil and reset the light, it will come back on in another 3k mi. to let me know I'm at a pre-sceduled maintenance interval right?

 

The Maint Light is only an oil timer. The Check Engine Light (CEL) is different. If you know when the oil was last changed, reset the light and wait to change the oil again, then reset the light again.

The maintenance light will flash 10 times after starting the car at something like 5,000 miles and stay on around 7,500 miles. 3k oil changes are pretty short for today's engines. Kind of like 15k clutch changes of yesteryear....
