Does the cruise control work when the speedometer is not working? Does the check engine light turn on while driving?

the sensor is located on top of your transmission right under your thermostat housing.

will have to remove your intake tube to get easy access to it.

be sure not to lose the little needle that comes out with it.

you can take it apart and use a 600 grit sand paper to clean up the cylinder inside and then make it real smooth with 800-1000 grit. make sure to put contact grease back on it.

rebuild didnt work for me, so i bought one off ebay for literally 15.00$, works like a charm

p.s. my CEL didnt come on right away either. it wasnt on for a few highway trips. just a blinking D4 light

If you have a Check Engine Light or blinking "D4" light, cruise control doesn't work, then it can be the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).

If you don't have a Check Engine Light or a blinking "D4" light, then it can be the speedometer circuit board and not the VSS.

Here is a link if it turns out to be the speedometer circuit board. You can either replace it with one from another instrument cluster to keep your original odometer reading, or try re-soldering the solder joints.

if i take out the speed sensor sand it,grease and put it back in the tranny will it work? i mean its not necessary to go through all the trouble of taking the cluster out because it was working fine imo

thats the idea behind it. like i said, my sensor was just dead and had to be replaced. you can find replacements super cheap on ebay. if you go to a parts store, prepare to pay 100+

did you look at that troubleshoot for the sensor? it gives step by step instructions for the rebuild.
