SRS Reset did not work
Hey what's poppin guys? I tried the tutorial here on how to reset the SRS light and it didn't work. I'm almost positive that the light is on because there is a malfunction with the SRS system or the airbags had previously deployed. When I got the car, the owner told my parents that the car had been in a couple accidents before. So, my question is... is there a way to determine what the problem is (maybe a code or something), and about how much money do you think I would need to spend to get the SRS system fixed... let's say the airbags deployed and were never replaced. How much do you think I would be spending to get new airbags put in? I just want a rough estimate on these things if you don't mind.
Since there is a code stored in the SRS unit, I would short the service connector using a thin paperclip and count the SRS light flashes. The instructions can be found here: http://www.dhost.info/accordinfo/ Just open the CEL light code link on that site. At the bottom of that site, there are pdfs of a shop manual for a 94 accord. This should be almost identical to your 97. Get the SRS section for the instructions on how to read the SRS code.
Your codes will be different than the two digit codes described for the check engine light. Your codes will be 10-1 for example. The SRS light will stay on for two seconds then flash the first code, pause, then flash the sub-code.
Post that code and we can help.
If the airbags deployed, I think that you have to replace the SRS control unit. That can be expensive unless you find them on E-Bay.

www.hondapartsdeals.com will have the dealership price as their list price. They take off ~20% for the sale on the website.
As for E-bay just search to find out how much the units are going for.
I don't know if the autozone scanner will pull the SRS codes. The method that I gave you will definitely give you the SRS codes.
