Starter issue?
I have an 05 accord ex. Replaced the battery and the starter. The starter spins but didnt engage to the crank/fly wheel in order to turn the engine over. The new starter does the same thing. After the 2-3 attempt the car will start and run perfect.
Im not sure if the fly wheel could be missing teeth, or if i need to replace the starter relay. This problem dont always happen, its once every couple starts. Help! |
When you have a new problem, even similar to an existing problem, start your own thread.
Clean/inspect battery connections carefully and see if problem is resolved. If not, need to check starter voltage for adequate voltage; possible defective bat wire. good luck |
It cant be the battery, its new and no corrosion on terminals. The starter engages when i turn the key, it just dont turn the engine. It basically spins freely without connecting to anything. Then the 2nd-4th attempt it starts right up...

Must be a faulty starter despite it being new. Not unheard to have bad starter out of box. What is source of starter.
To confirm, check for 11+V at starter during starting. If adequate voltage then starter is defective. good luck |
How do i test the starter? Its already installed.
|
Test voltage supplied at starter. It should be greater than 11V. If less, there is a bad spot in wire. If 11+V then starter is defective.
good luck |
Possible its a bad starter relay.. Is that possible..?
|
Sounds like the starter works, but the pinion gear doesn't throw out far enough. Testing it on the bench isn't gonna pick that up unless you bother to measure that; & know exactly how far it's supposed to come out.

The starter thing seems to happen only when the car is warm...? Im going to put a new starter in. This is the 4th starter, and still under 100k.. Is this normal?
|
I've heard of numerous problems w/ aftermarket starters, but that is pretty unlucky to get 4 bad starters.
good luck |
