I own a 2013 Accord and in the last year or so, when I press the ignition button occasionally I get a whining noise the kind you would get (or close to it) when, in the old days, you tried to start a car already running. Typically, at the second attempt, the car starts normally. In the last week, I had this happen twice consecutively two times, before the car started normally. This naturally has me wondering if I have stripped gears or something else is happening. Any thoughts?

 

Possibly the starter. Does the vehicle have a strong battery?

 

Yes, I believe so. I just replaced it 2 years ago.
