Default Starter question... and yes this has probably been asked before

I understand that there are two types of started for the accord but i was wondering what the difference is between the auto and 5speed starter and are they interchangeable?

I believe they are sort of interchangeable but my guess would be that one is a touch stronger than the other since your flywheels should be slightly different in weight from auto to 5 speed.... but I'm just guessing...

I don't think it's strength or flywheel weight. The load on the starter would be about the same because it's mostly determined by the engine itself.

I always figured the mounting flange & bolt spacing were different, but don't know for sure.

I had recently replaced my starter for an AT. The parts department at first brought out a starter for a manual transmission. There is about a 1/4 inch difference between the bolt patterns. You may not be able to get the starter mounted properly.
