Default stuck, need more help please

after repeatedly installing/uninstalling my timing belt etc. I am still not succeeding in coming up with all alignment marks dead-on. W/ crank and cam marks perfect the timing belt won't go on-looks about half-a-tooth off either way. If I get the belt on the mark on the crank pulley appears OK but the TDC mark on the flywheel looks to have moved approximately 2-3 degrees (forward or backward).
I have repeated the installation steps over and over - I HATE to leave it as-is, I'm kind of **** about getting it right but I'm about out of time, patience, and ideas.
Now what, have you any suggestions? I'm running out of time!

Thanks in advance for any help, appreciate your time!

Two questions:

Is your engine single or dual cam?

As you take the belt off and on in order to adjust timing mark positions, are you marking the timing belt so that you are certain of the LAST position you just tried? By doing so, you should be able to nail the correct position within a couple of attempts.

Of course, the best thing to do is asI suggested in my original thread - make reference marks on the crank and cam pulleys and the teeth or valleys on the orignal belt (before you remove the belt for the first time), then transfer the marks on the original belt to the new belt. Then, as you install the new belt, align the marks on the new belt with the marks on the pulleys. Ironclad, as long as the original belt was installed correctly.

Hope this helps.
