I heard in a TV program that synthetic engine oil results in higher fuel efficiency. If that's true, (and not to mention that it lasts longer) synthetic oil might be the way to go purely from a monetary point of view!

 

Theoretically true, but barely any difference. Long oil-change intervals should be supported by oil analysis.

 

Simple answer: No. You will not be able to tell a difference in gas mileage. You won't be able to tell a difference in anything at all for that matter. no you will not get better horsepower either. All of that is merely a sales gimmick used by Synthetic oil manufacturers. The only thing you should notice is your wallet getting lighter when you buy the syntheticoil, and you will possibly sleep better at night going over 3000 miles between oil changes.

I don't know. It is allowing me to post more words all of a sudden. I think it may have something to do with the order in which you respond. i.e. if you are the first person to respond on a thread, it only lets you write a few words.

If you have a snail under the hood, synthetic oil is better because it won't cook at such a low temp. Often it eliminates the need for a turbo timer when an oil cooler is included.

 

So in other words, all the research/analysis done with synthetic oils is nonsense? I don't agree.

for_stock_non-turbo_cars.
