Tapping from driver's side dash, '07 2.4l
Recently I have noticed a tapping noise coming from the driver's side dash area, around the vent. The sound does not seem to be connected to the fan because it doesn't speed up as the fan is turned up. The tapping begins at start up but then goes away after a couple of minutes. It is more of a plastic on plastic sound rather than a metal on metal. Any ideas?

I have a 1998 Accord, so I don't know if the 07 has the same type of arrangement.
1) open the fusebox cover on the driver side and see if it's louder. It might be a relay. 2) It could be the vent door actuator. They move the doors according to the setup of your climate control (hot-cold, recirculate, etc..). Try turning the climate control off just as you start the car and see if there is a difference. |
The sound is not so much a tapping as it is a fluttering. Almost as if there was a leaf stuck in the vent but it does not do this all the time nor does the speed increase with the fan. I tried turning off the climate control but it still happens.

Anybody have any ideas about this "fluttering" noise?

Noises are tough to identify over the web. Can you try to remove the glove box and pin-point the location of the noise?

I think I might have discovered it. After nearly a year I found this video on Youtube.
I ordered the part from HondaPartsNow, and will give it a try this weekend. |
That fixed it. It was the motor that controls the a/c and heat mixing door that was making the noise. Pain in the butt to replace. Very difficult getting to the part under the dash. Had to remove a bracket that bolts to firewall and dash.
