TCS and Check Engine P7040 and P1676 codes

I drive 2002 Honda Accord EX V6 car. It has 111K miles on it and i bought it from a dealer as-is last year.

Yesterday, the TCS and Check Engine light came up together. I stopped the car and restarted the ignition and the TCS light went off but the Check Engine light is still there.

I went to the autozone and the code they mentioned are P0740 and P1676. (apologies i mentioned incorrectly in the header)

What could be the issue and what should i start with?

What do you think it will cost for the repair?

Can I drive the car to work (50 miles a day) until I get time to get it repaired?

It happened y'day when i was returning from work. I stay in Chicago area and sometime last month TCS light stayed on when I switched the car on in early morning cold. But it went off when i restarted the car after some time. But this time, it came up with the check engine light which is still on...

Please suggest the next steps.

Which is more concerning?

P0740 is for the trans- Lock up control system.
P1676 is the for the TCS/ABS - Signal line malfunction

Can you drive, yes. You might have issues with the lock up, not good for MPG and that. Also you will not have TCS.

Cost will depend on serveral things. Are you doing the work? Then what is the final answer, these codes have testing procedures to narrow down the issue.......could be a broken wire.....new PCM needed......solenoids replaced......new ABS/TCS control unit....new trans(Edit-should have included this as well :) - Thanks Redbull). So I could not even begin to ballpark it, sorry.

Well, if the symptoms are the same as was posted in this other thread, it may turn out to be a transmission problem:

Thanks a lot redbull and poorman for your reply. I will have to get it done from a mechanic. But is there any visual check or something that i can do to point out the problem myself? It happened on a snow/cold day.

I will check the rpm at various speeds and will reply again.

Additionally, is there something that i can check and do to avoid the problem from multiplying further... until i take it to a mechanic over the next week or so. probably, something in the testing procedure that i can start with??

Did they (autozone) reset the codes? If so, did they come back?

Anyway, the "tree" if you will on the P0740 says to address any other codes first. Which in your case is the 1676.

Thanks poorman for the instructions... I think as a novice, i can perform the steps 1 and 2 (reset the PCM. i guess it means take off -ve battery terminal and then start the car and see if the code reappears). Is my understanding correct? Any further steps that i can do without any tools/experience? thanks.

No, they (AutoZone) did not reset the codes.

But today when i started driving the car, after about 30 mins, the TCS light came ON again. When i restarted the car, it went off. CEL is still ON.

I observed less tire pressure and also the tires are old and due for change.

I checked the RPMs at various speeds today and it looks normal to me. The transmission shifts just fine for all the speeds. It stays at ~2K rpm on 70mph and ~3K rpm on 80 mph. For every shift, it goes to near 3K and then shifts back to ~2K in the next drive gear.
