Transmission problem

ever since I got my car a few months back, I have realized that it is burning more gas then my last 2006 accord 2.4L auto. it averages 22 city and highway.

I tried to find out what's wrong with it and I realized that the exhaust is dirty very dirty. Im not sure if it's the oxygen sensor or is it because the last driver have been driving it too hard. So i cleaned it and it has not been dirty ever since. a month ago.

Then i realized that the transmission is only dropping 3 times, to me it looks like the transmission is not using the 5th gear or the torque convertor lock (over drive im guessing). it is giving me a engine speed of 1700 to 1900rpm at 60 km/h or around 40 mph. When im driving on the highway at 100 km/h or 65mph, the engine is running at around 2000 rpm. the lowest speed it ever given me for traveling on a flat road at 60 km/h is 1500rpm it only happended once.

I called the dealer asking what is the designed speed for a 4 cylinder accord trveling at 60km/h on a flat straight road. they told me to bring it in for a check at a cost of 90 dollars.

Can anyone tell me what is the normal engine speed at 60 km/h or 40 mph?

I have a 2008 accord exl 4 cylinder 5speed automatic at 150,000 km or 90,000 miles

just to clarify, the engine speed only drops 3 times when i accrlerate from 0 to 60 km/h or 40 mph.

very different years, but others will chime in too.
'92 Accord, 4 cyl., 5sp: 60mph = 2500 rpm in 5th
'97 Accord 4 cyl, AT: close to same (memory 2700??).
