Default Tightened neg.post of battery, now won't crank?

I started the car this morning and turned it around. I opened the hood, and noticed the neg. cable was loose, so I disconnect cable and clean with wire brush. I do the same cleaning with positive post. I ensure the fittings are clean and tight. I insert key in ignition and it won't turn over and there is no starter noise. I turn key to 'on' and hear a slight hum. I also notice that when I attempt to start the "P" and "D" shifter light are both on, then "D" light goes out. I checked every fuse on drivers side and in engine compartment. I took a rubber tipped pipe and hammered the starter a few times. Voltage of battery is ~12.6 volts. I also moved shifter from "P" to "N" and attempted to start. No prior symptoms. Any suggestions?

As is true with every backyard mechanic, there comes a time when he must humbly admit he overlooked the obvious. When I disconnected the battery, I forgot to reset the alarm by pressing the remote. It starts fine now.

lol. Stuff like that happens to me all the time. Me - "Why won't it crank! Stupid car!" My mind - "You forgot to hook the battery back up when you were done working on it"

The 95 accord doesn't have a factory alarm system. If your car has an alarm system, it is either an aftermarket alarm, or maybe a dealership accessory.

What happens when you put the key in the ignition? What happens when you try to start it?

an alarm reset procedure can be model specific. Try google with your specific alarm brand keyword and see if the general reset instruction would work for your car. If you are not familiar with the alarm operating instruction, chances are good that you will have more problem with it in the future.

If all fail, you can just dig into your steering wheel column harness (this is where an alarm system usually intercepts your starting circuit) and reconnect your start wiring. This may also mean disabling your alarm.
