Default timing advanced, but not. 92

So ive checked all my timing marks, even balance shaft lines up nice.

But when I set timing with light, I make distributor all the way advanced, and its about halfway between white line and red line.

I get a lot of pinging going up hills, cant accelerate very well...

im assuming something factory is out of wack and I need to move cam a few teeth, but not sure if it will damage anything.

are you shorting the service check connector to take the ECM out of the loop. that's what needs to be done to set the base timing correctly.

I suspect the distributor is misaligned by 180 degs. I didn't think it would start or run w/ that alignment, but perhaps it's possible.

good luck

good point texas. pull the plugs, bring no. 1 cylinder up to tdc and then pull the cap and see where the rotor is pointing. is it pointing at the no. plug wire contact? you may have to restab the distributor.

You checked and distributor rotor is pointing towards No 1 spark plug cable connector w/ crankshaft pulley aligned to 15 BTDC?

If yes, then distributor rotor may have sheared. It seems possible, but I never heard of this.

It is possible to install the distributor rotor off by 180 degs. Guess how I know

good luck
