Torque Specs 96 honda accord brakes
hi, browsing the web for info on my honda and came across the forum. This place rocks!
I am replacing rotors and pads. I am looking for some torque specs for my 1996 honda accord ex vtec 4cy (has ABS).
The 4 bolts which bolt the hub onto the rotor. These you can see immediately when you remove the tire.
and
The 4 bolts which hold/mount (12mm heads) the bearing on knuckle.
Also thinking about converting to the 98 style brakes. Anyone know of a thread on how to do that? Guessing you just buy 98 pads, rotors, bearing and hub. Press hub and bearing together mount into knuckle and piece of cake? <grin> If it's that easy to do then I would guess the hard part would be finding the hub. I looked for a hub for my 96 and all I got was "honda part". heheh

The knuckle is different too, to hold the '98+ wheel bearing. That leads to maybe(?) the distance between upper & lower ball joints, control arm lengths, lots of stuff MIGHT(?) be different.
I don't know the tightening torques for you... but WELCOME!

There is a writeup in the DIY section for the hub over rotor conversion.
You need a hub from a 98 Acura 2.3 CL pressed into a 94/97 bearing. The rotor can be from the acura CL or I think a 98-02 accord (see if the rotors have the same part number). The 94/97 pads should be used, because I don't think that you need to change out the calipers.
TASauto sells a kit for the conversion.

Interesting. Who figures this stuff out? heh I didn't see that write up the DIY section but I'll search again.
Anywho I bought a haynes manual today for the car. (had a chilton...came with the car when I bought it) The Haynes seems like a better book. Found my torque specs in under 2 minutes and I was even really looking for them.
FYI -Steering knuckle to hub/bearing = 33. Hub to disc bolts = 40 ftlbs.
Interesting the Haynes says 54ftlbs for the caliper mounting bolts. The chilton calls for 80ftlbs if I remember correctly. The Haynes # seems more logical.
