I add mine through the overflow plug on the side of the tranny case.

thanks, do you stick a little hose in there ? I was just thinking the sensor is right above it, and its hole is a lot bigger.

Hmmm, the hole was pretty large, easily enough to get a finger through, and easily enough to put a small hose in to pump the MTF in.

the check bolt on mine is 10 mm and I don't have a pump. so I am going to put a 3/8" hose through the sensor hole that looks to be about 5/8" and hold the funnel near the radiator. #1 going to raise car up on right side on level ground,#2 remove the plastic weather guard,#3 remove sensor first,#4 remove drain plug , drain into pan,#5 lower jack, #6 let rest drain into pan.#7 raise the jack. reinstall drain plug,, #8 put 3/8" hose into sensor hole, lower jack, add two quarts to funnel.#9 raise jack, reinstall sensor, remove check bolt,#10 lower jack, look for any oil to drain from check bolt. raise jack. reinstall check bolt. put plastic trim back on, lower jack and recycle oil. see if trans 3rd gear issue is resolved. putting in gm friction modified syncromesh.

Revisiting the fill plug hole on top of the transmission; it seems like all Honda transmissions from that era (maybe all Honda transmissions in general) have a real pain in the hind-parts to remove fill plug which takes some serious effort to break it loose. I ran into that issue with my Accord and have heard others fuss about it as well. For my TL (same transmission as your car sans the LSD) I opted to pump the MTF in via the side overflow hole.

Thinking about the side hole again, what if you run a tube down from above? That way you won't need to use a pump.

Consider using a high quality breaker bar with a cheater bar. That fill plug should break loose.

For people reading this in the future. Always loosen the fill plug before the drain plug so you are not stuck with a vehicle without fluid.

I don't want to break it.

it think it would take too long to try to fill it via the check hole. I think you turn it counter clock wise, then it will pop out. going to try again.
