update,, got the bolt from hell out yesterday, picked up a new seal and i had 10 qts of atf on the shelf, should havw it stabbed saturday and finished up sunday after church,, thanks yall

Good to hear......good luck.

Be sure to check/adjust the throttle control cable (goes from the TB to the trans) once the new trans is in. If that gets out of adjustment you will have "strange" shifting from the trans.

ok thanks for the tip, how do you adjust it , how tight should it be..piano string or a lil loose?? also,,, is multi purpose fluiid trans fluid ok?? it is all i have on hand ,,thanks

If you don't have one, try to track down a shop manual at Online manuals. Also, this page has info on adjusting that cable: TechAuto Trans.

I use and have had great results with Valvoline Maxlife. Most swear by DW-1. Using anything but one of those two is asking for grief.

Question How much fluid??

I bought this used at a pick and pull and the drain plug was pulled, how many qts of atf do i need?? thanks

Drain & fill is about 3 quarts, but dry-fill is about 8 quarts. The difference is mostly because the torque converter doesn't drain.

From a pick-n-pull, I'd have to guess that at least some of the torque-converter has drained, so it might be closer to a dry-fill. Maybe you can judge that after handling the transmission??

UPDATE<<<<< trans is in with a few bolts holding it in place , was a real pain to reinstall but was able to get it in, should be finishing up today/evening as wife needs it for work next week. I will Update this thread ,,thanks for the concern poorman,,,SEMPER FI

Update,,got it in as i said , now i gave a mere 61 bux for a new pass side axle , life time warr. torque converter is booted up , shife linkage hooked up, working on axles next, , wish me luck,, thanks,,
