Default trans shifts ok?

my 01 accord v6 cruises at 2700rpm@55mph.
i am sure it shifts fine 1-2-3-4
i manually moved the shift lever from 1-2-3-4
and the trans responds correctly and the rpms adjust 500-700rpm each shift
so, what does that tell me?
trans is in 4th gear but rpms are too high?
what would cause the trans to basically rev to high in all gears?
it feels like the trans is in wrong ratio/rpm in all gears.

Hmmm, sounds like either you're either experiencing 3rd gear and then 3rd gear moving into torque converter lockup (which feels like a shift), or your car is going into 4th gear and not locking up the torque converter.

FWIW, I recently did a little math on my 2001 V6 Accord relative to RPMs at 60 mph in the various gears:
  • 1st @ 60 mph -- 8,407 RPMs
  • 2nd @ 60 mph -- 4,984 RPMs
  • 3rd @ 60 mph -- 3,157 RPMs
  • 4th @ 60 mph -- 2,027 RPMs

One additional thought, I just changed my spreadsheet to show the RPMs at 55 mph in each of the four gears, and this in turn shows you may not be getting to 4th gear:
  • 1st @ 55 mph -- 7,706 RPMs
  • 2nd @ 55 mph -- 4,569 RPMs
  • 3rd @ 55 mph -- 2,894 RPMs
  • 4th @ 55 mph -- 1,858 RPMs

well, when i manually shift from 3 to 4 the rpms drop 500+rpms. i might have to go drive at 3 and see what my rpm is at 55mph. i am thinking 4500-5000?

Something is very-very wrong here; either your transmission is seriously slipping or you have tiny little tires on the car. Either way, something is amiss.

you can also redo the rpm/speed
40mph in 4th would be 1350rpm
40mph in 3rd would be 2100 rpm
pretty easy to do 40mph in 3rd and report back

car drives fine but rpm is too high
got 500 into it
found a used trans for 400
i can do the work BUT is it a waste of time?
fixed i could sell it for 1000?
or drive it for awhile?
or sell it for 500 right now and get a nicer car?

I suppose it depends upon how well the rest of the car looks and operates. My 2001 V6 Accord EX, which will be going up for sale in a few weeks, is a really nice ride; way-way better than anything else I could buy for $1,000.

i have gotten 3 used trans and they worked ok. but they were all GM trans.
the 01 accord v6 has a terrible rep. i think it is a lousy bet to expect a junkyard trans to work.
leaning towards not doing the swap. when junkyard says the trans is tested and ok,
what the heck do they mean? that car moves? in yard? heck, my car moves fine. shifts great. but it slips bigtime.
