Transmission fluid replacement in 18 months
Hi,
I have a 2004 Honda Accord LX, 4 cylinder , Automatic Transmission, 88K miles on it.
I went for a schedule oil change to my mechanic, Mechanic told me that transmission fluid is ok ( not brown not black ) might need to be changed in next 4-6 months. I stay in Phoenix and temperatures here is 105+ in summer.
I was bit surprised from mechanic comment on trans fluid. I asked him----i heard that trans fluid has to be changed every 30K miles. He said yes....then i told him i got transmission flushed just 8K miles back ( 12 months back). He was surprised and asked where did i got my trans flushed done...was it at Honda.....I said no....it was done by your shop only.......He checked and said yes i see it was changed 12 months back....
Question: Will trans fluid have to be changed after 18 months ( or after 12K miles). What could be the reason of oil color changing to say light black in 18 months.
Thanks

Reason for oil to change color is overheating. This can happen due to towing, lots of hard driving (heavy accelerations), long periods of idle in high temperture conditions perhaps.
Phoenix may qualify as severe duty conditions. Check your owner's manual.
good luck
