Transmission interchangeability?
Just looking for confirmation that an EX manual and an LX manual are interchangeable. The goal is to find a wagon 5 speed so I get the 4.266 final drive with OEM ratios. (That's why I am staying away from the Prelude trans. Different gear ratios)
Any "gotcha's"? Like "94-96 same, 97 different"?
Car: 94 LX.

The F "series" are all interchangeable. 90-02 will bolt up. I'd have to do some thinking but even some of the H "series trans will fit as well.
Again, to get the ratio(s) you are wanting will be the key.

Thanks for the confirmation. It looked like the LX and EX transmissions were indeed identical, but before I go buying one and having it rebuilt I didn't want to find out on install it wasn't going to work.
I need to have the OEM ratios as this is going in my race car. The rules say I can't change gear ratios without taking a penalty. This rules out the prelude transmissions that will also bolt up and work (rumor has it), but have different ratios than the Accords. I could get a prelude final drive, and put it in an Accord trans (that's what's in there now), but if I can find the Wagon trans, I save a few $$.
Now I can expand my search to EX Wagon models which are easier to find it seems, though still rare. The search for that needle in a haystack continues.

Thanks, I will need a lot of luck. If I don't find one, I will have to buy two transmissions. An Accord Sedan trans to rebuild, then a Prelude trans to pull apart and get the final drive from. Of course, I could just use the Prelude trans and hope no one notices, but I fear the Karma that may bring.
I can't condone cheating, but it is unlike anyone would notice the prelude transmission, especially if you remove the paper with the code on it on the transmission.
Putting a h22 LSD(M2B4) transmission in my 97 ex took .7 seconds off my 1/4 mile time.

Dang, .7 in a 1/4 mile improvement....cool.
