i bought a 90 sedan lx yesterday, and was told that the only thing wrong with it was the clutch. it didn't have a battery so it wouldn't start, so this morning i went and bought a battery, and a clutch. i put the battery in and started the car........now to the issue--i can shift the car while the engine is running and it won't pull at all, could it be the clutch completely gone or is there another issue with it?----thanx in advance for the insight and help.
So if the clutch is worn out & slipping, it usually is NOT so complete that you can shift like that. Some things to check...
Axles no seated properly into the differential splines?
Axles broken in some other manner?
Something really broken with the clutch (more than just worn out). Did you buy a new pressure plate too?

Flywheel should be fine, but it should probably be resurfaced.
I agree with Jim though, when I changed my clutch, the disc itself was literally falling appart when I took it out of the car, but it still would hold and allow me to drive.

i just got off the phone with a transmission guy(friend of the family) and he said that the clutch could be so far gone that it isn't allowing it to disengage. he said he had the same thing happen a couple months ago with another honda that came into his shop.
OK, I guess most of us wouldn't let it get that bad before replacing it.
BTW, it's so worn out that it doesn't engage. It acts like it's disengaged all the time. You press down the pedal to DISengage the clutch.

sorry got confused for a min.
like i said it was a girl that i bought it from 2 days ago, and she was trying to build it into a ghetto a@# show car, and didn't know what she was doing. so now i have to fix all of her screw ups and bring the car back from the dead. she said the only thing that was wrong with the car was the clutch was out, but the further i get into it the more stuff i find, like the pass. window motor is out completely, she painted the tan interior black(seats and all), and the ghetto primer job she did to it, that's what i found so far

Jack up the front and chock the rear wheels have a buddy with you and then put it in gear and check to see whats moving if anything, if it's really bad like suspected the wheels shouldstill turn some once you have no weight on it.
That's a good point and it sounds more like you need to find a cheap tranny and throw that new clutch on and call it a day.
Where did you get the clutch? I've heard no-name parts store clutch go out within 1,500 miles and then you're stuck doing the job all over again. I'd return what you bought and get an OEM clutch from Honda (or online) or aftermarket stage 1 from ACT, Clutchmasters, Exedy, Fidanza, etc.
