Default valve adjustment

Hello I have an 1994 accord lx auto. high miles 310,000.Was doing a waterpump.Timing belt snapped very easily when trying to break crank bolt.No worries was replacing both belts since I was already there .In adjusting the valves .10 for intake and .12 for exhaust. Started car and I had an egg beater .Serious valve clatter, none before . I would all but guarantee I was top dead center on each cylinder. Used all reference marks and a chopstick in cylinder to boot .I used 1 short cut , when 1 is at top dead center I 4 is as well ,so I did 4 also , as were.2,3.... is .Is this my problem , do I need to just go through the firing order on adjustment ?If that isnt it Im lost .This is a phenomenal car ,doesnt burn a drop ,no smoke very tight I want another 300k Thankyou

you need to adjust ONLY that particular cylinder that is at top dead center ,, you cannot adjust 1 and 4 like the old days
I would recheck the valve adjustment and also make sure that the lock nuts on the adjustment were properly tighten
