Default Vibration After CV Shaft Replacement

I just replaced the passenger side CV shaft and now I'm getting a vibration while accelerating. Only happens between 25 and 30 mph. Only changes were the CV shaft and changing transmission oil. Had no vibrations prior to the change. I did grease the splines before replacing shaft but just enough to fill the spline valleys....not what I would call much but the originals had none. And I did switch to Mobile One Synthetic in the transmission. Sure made a noticeably positive difference in shifter accuation. Bad shaft (Pep Boys Lifetime Warranty)? It's not a suspension shimmy but rather a vibration felt at the seat of the pants.

Could be defective axle if the vibration wasn't there before. Sometimes the axle joints are a little stiff and it will vibrates.

Make sure it is completely seated into the transmission. It will "pop" in place.

Now I'm quite certain it's seated. I did hear it pop in and it was the passenger side axle so it would be leaking transmission fluid if it wasn't seated.....right?

I've read in more than one instance on this site where the shafts have been defective from the parts store. Dang....the job wasn't that tough but it was time consuming. Crappers....I don't want to do it again.

i would return it and get another, if it still makes the noise we can further diagnose it

Suggest checking front and rear motor mounts for any damage. Rear can be viewed from pax side w/ good light. Have someone put emergency brake and foot brake on, and put trans into reverse. Watch the mount for unusual movement. Front is easily visible and inspectable directly.

I've replaced axle on both sides of my 94EX and either something else is wrong (both front and rear mounts replaced and side mounts look fine), or I have bad axles also. I have a similar vibration under acceleration very noticeable about 20-30, but also noticeable under heavy acceleration at higher speeds.

I'll be interested to see if new axle fixes your problem. I might try again w/ Autozone axle if you get a fix.

good luck

I will check the motor mounts as you suggest but I think the problem is with the new shaft. It's already starting to "clack" under moderate cornering.

Wow - I'm having this as well. Put new axles in last weekend; same vibration people are describing in now THREE threads. Gonna' check motor and trans mounts as mentioned just above.

Another part to check is the axle extension shaft on the drivers side. Shaft extends from differential to a supported bearing female end. I have read of others finding the bearing loose in the support. I have not checked mine since the car is not driven and only a "loaner" when another is out of service.

I looked on Majestic Honda parts and the extension shaft is not listed although part sequence numbers are shown in the drawing. It should be possible to remove and find a replacement aftermarket bearing.

good luck

Mine must be a manufacturing flaw in the CV shaft. I have had it in for a couple of months now and it's actually starting to loosen up to where it hardly vibrates. I have a life-time warranty on this unit so I will replace it soon.
