Vtec Problems
Hello. I have a 98 Accord 2.3L and I think I have a problem with my Vtec Solenoid.
I get in my friends Civic and I can hear the Engine sound different at a higher RPM and her says that is Vtec. That has never happened with my car. So I was looking around and people say they suggest taking off the VTec Solenoid and cleaning it with Brake Cleaner. replace the gaskets as well. So my question is: Is there a way to test my Vtec Solenoid? Before I take off the Solenoid do I have to drain the motor from Engine Oil? The solenoid is right next to the block so I am worried that if I take it off all the oil will come out. Any Help Please? |
You don't have to drain engine oil to remove VTEC solenoid. Oil only flows under pressure when engine is running. You may lose a tiny amount. If solenoid were not working, an engine code would be set. It could be blocked, but this seems unlikely.
good luck |
If that's a civic Si (DOHC engine) then her vtec is a lot different than an Accord's vtec. Yours is a lot more subtle, & switches at lower RPM too. Some B16 (civic si) engines have 2-stage intake manifolds and when the secondaries open up all the kiddies think THAT is the vtec sound.
