Hey im having the same problem, my vtec solenoid is leaking as well. i have a 98 honda accord ex. Would the removal and replacement be the same on all accords?

Welcome new member! Here's the 1998 spool valve, which is pretty much the same as most years up thru 2002.

The spool valve is #11, but the picture is kinda funny. In reality it's located more towards the right side of the car, closer to the throttle body & distributor. It might not be real convenient to reach the mounting bolts.

Mine is leaking. I took a few pictures of it to ask a friend of mine what it is and should I replace it or new gasket or rtv or what?

He said he never got the email. I ran across this thread while trying to figure a different issue. Of course I have reinstalled that thing without fixing anything.

Should I change the part or just get a gasket?

Any help would be appreciated.

David

RTV has a risk of getting gunk in the tiny passageways of that valve. I'd get a new gasket.

Just removed this VTEC solenoid from a 2000 Accord SE. Yes, the lower bolt is a PITA but it can be remove without removing the thermostat housing. A ratchet socket would not fit, I tried the slimest 1/4 ratchet I had but the t housing was still blocking it, even tried some swivel sockets, still didn't work. I tried a stubby 10mm wrench but it, or me, wasn't strong enough. Bought a offset wrench set from HF and that fit it was slowly rounding off the bolt. In hindsight I should have clean the bolt with brake cleaner to get rid of all the oil/grease and grime on it which would have help the wrench to get a better grip. But it finally worked with a longer 10mm wrench. It didn't have much room but just enough to crack it open. Will reinstall with new gasket.

Also there's third round gasket on a sensor attached to this solenoid. The sensor require a 21, or maybe 22mm, wrench to take off. Not sure if that is part of the oil leak problem but I removed this sensor to create more room to work and I notice a round gasket.
