Default Water pump

My step dad put on my water pump and couldn't find it where the water pump courner gasket piece went. I found it positioning but dont know if it's worth taking it apart again to put it on.

I thought the water pump gasket was basically a large odd shaped "O" ring. That piece shown in the pic looks like a gap filler piece for the timing cover.

Welcome to forum - your first post.

I'd put it in a zip-lock bag, to save in the trunk.
When you change the oil in future, inspect the water pump for leaks; when you find leaks then revisit topic ...

If it's not broke, don't fix it.

It always helps to know what kind of car & engine we're talking about. Photo isn't big enough for me to recognize.
