Default Well, These guys on the internet recommened it!!?

I went to my mechanic this morning and told him I wanted an oil change as well as MTF change. I would do it, but it's tooooo cold outside, and I've waited WAY too long. He asked why I needed a MTF change. I explained it was a newly bought used Honda and that I hadn't changed any fluids yet, and that shifting was getting tricky as of late. He said, but why exactly do you think you need to change the fluid. I found myelf telling him that I have come to trust an internet site of Honda enthusiasts and they recommeded the change. He told me that quite often, if shifting problems occur, it's not jsut the fluid. Well, Whatever. I've actually only used this guy once, he changed my CV join/axle. I likde the service and they came highly reccomened. Don't really care about what he thinks, per say. I need a MTF cahnge in order to take the next step in seeing what, if anythihng else, is wrong with my tranny.

Sometimes it's just funny to hear yourself say, I trust a bunch of people I have never met, who are online and care about helping others. If I was him, I would've thought myself to be nuts. I need to make a card that says www.hondaaccordforums.com and drop it on people, like, see for yourself. HA!

When/if shifting problems occur often times it's not just the fluid. However, it's only going to help you by changing it so why not? and if that completely resolves the issue or even just makes it a little better then it was well worth it... Also, be sure to use honda MTF fluid....

I do have to admit though, it does sound a bit odd. However, if I was a curious person (as I am) I would probably logon to the site and see what it's all about, then I'd notice that they seem to know their stuff and probably be proud of the fact that my customer is educated....

make sure that when replacing tranny oil they use either 10w-30 or Honda MTF.. make sure they DO NOT use gear oil 80-90 w ,, it will ruin your tranny,,
but he is also correct in saying that not just the fluid could cause shifting problems
.
And thanks for believing in us ..

I just had my tranny and engine oil replaced this morning. FINALLY!! I brought with me Honda MTF for them to use. Driving from my mechanic to my job ( about 3 miles), first gear still felt a bit hard to engage. But all in all it felt much smoother. WOuld it take some time for the MTF to circulate? FYI, I had them show me my under carriage on the lift, so I can do change the fluids myself in the future.

thanks as always, I'll prob start a new post about first gear issues.

Honda's are notorious for being "finicky" going into first gear.... for example when I stop I usually put my foot on the clutch and shift into second as I'm rolling to a stop because it seems to make first gear easer to shift into.... search the forum for "first gear blues" and you'll see an overly large post about it *L*
