Default What is called the bolts that hold the cover........

Hey i recently tried to take the cover that covers the heads, i.e cover that has the oil cap thing.. Well when i tried to put the bolts back, one of them instead of tightening, tightened then started to not tighten like stripped, and another bolt i took out broke off the thread part.

My question is, #1)what are these bolts called, i think there are 5 or 6 of them with a rubber washer, #2) where can i get them besides the dealer, #3) why was one stripping??? since its not tight, oil is leaking thru the gasket..

Any input is appreciated, thanks guyys

PS forgot to mention....one of the bolts thread part broke off meaning its stuck in the inside where the bolt is supposed to go, any idea if this is a difficult task, im guessing i would have to remove the cover...

Check for an underhood or doorjamb label that might show WHAT YEAR the car is.
The valve cover studs are different thru the years.
People overtorque them all the time, 10 ftlbs MAX.

Honda dealership, a junkyard, or online retailers of OEM parts.

your only looking at about $5 each for the exact correct stud from the dealership; as opposed to spending hours & hours of time trying to save $2

Then I'd get a new one for that position also.
Don't over-tighten them.

If you pull off the valve cover, removing the broken stud will be a piece of cake. I'd remove and replace any damaged studs also while I was there.

well i got the new studs and apparently for not...the bolt threads themselves are not stripped... seems like the bolt hole is made of aluminium or something and when i saw one of the bolts, it had metal around the threads from the hole....

as a result seems like the bolts are not stripped but the holes in which the bolt goes which obviously is worse... any way to fix this problem???
Only thing i can think of is a wider bolt or some kind of adheasive around the bolt to make it a tight fit in the bolt hole??
