What kind of gas mileage you get?

Hi all, I get around 23 MPG in city and 28 MPG on highway on 2000 se 4 cyl auto, how is everybody else doing?

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

I'm averaging 21 mpg, about 70/30 city highways driving.

BlkCurrantKord 02-28-2008 07:21 AM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

24/30...200 miles a week, usually getting 400+ per tank. 98 4cyl auto, 120k

22-24 mostly stop and go, some freeway

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

In the 2000 4cyl LX 5spd:
29-32 mpg mostly city driving
32-36 mpg if I ever get to do all highway
My wife drives the V6 and I'm not sure what she gets. But I thinkshe gets around 25mpg most of the time.

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

Horrible.

I usually BARELY get 24mpg on my 4cyl and now I drive 160 miles a week that is on the interstate. And I drive 65mph or less!

I just want my O2 sensors to die soon so I can get the EPA thing done and hopefully itll fix it.

Plus I have an intake and exhaust which should help. I remember when my car used to get 33 on the interstate and 35 on highways.
Any ideas? ugh

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

When is the last time you changed your plugs? My mileage went down to the 27's on average and I knew it was time for a plug change anyway. So I changed my plugs and voila! Back to 31mpg on average (mostly city miles) again.

Probably a little over a year ago. AND they were the $50 double platnium NGK plugs!!!!!

I dont think plug wires would do that would they?

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

I average around 22 mpg, but I have a well known lead foot.

Yeah, those lead foots are MPG killers!!![sm=shootshoot.gif]

Lately i've been getting about 27ish 70 highway 30 city. I've been driving spirited lately for some reason. When I drive sensible with that same mix of driving I usually get 29/30.

I really doubt your plug wires could be bad as few miles as you have on your car. I would just inspect them. Spray a mist of water on them in the dark and look for arcing. I'm kind of stumped here as to why your mileage would be getting worse. Didn't you remove your OBX header? Didn't you originally think the reduction in mileage was due to a leak in one of the gaskets?

19Accord97 02-28-2008 03:40 PM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

Well I put the wires in the same time as the plugs. They were 9.3mm or 10.3mm that I got off eBay.
Yes, I thought the drop in MPG was b/c of the leak with the gaskets but now I am not so sure. Great, and I just sold my header[&:]
Also, after driving 20 miles to my college going 65, there was still a big flow of white gas coming from my exhaust....which I think should have all been burned out....so thats got me wondering.

Every once n awhile when I come to a stop ill see my exhaust floating up front like theres a leak...but I have no idea about that, could just be wind?

These are the same wires I got from the same seller...but I upgraded the plugs to double plats before I put them in.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-97...spagenameZWDVW

As of now, I have 290 miles on the trip odometer and I am already about 2 needlestick widths below the 1/4 tank mark[:@] And it always drops faster after that.

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

Just took a little spirited drive....now the gauge is about half way or a little less and only drove about 10 miles. Also heard some whisping ....idk wtf they keep going out.
Any other ideas?

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

'08 Couple EX-L auto 4 cyl. Two fill ups so far and got 25.5 and 26.7 MPG. I am doing even better on this tank. That's not so good coming from an Insight, but this car is SOOOO much more comfortable.

jeepwm69 02-28-2008 10:04 PM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

93 accord 5 speed with 311K on it gets 30-32 mpg hwy, 27-28 around town.
00 accord 4cyl auto with 120K on it gets 27ish hwy, 23-24 around town.

I drive 70-75 on the highway. If I slow down to 55-60 I get about 34 in the 93 Honda.

19Accord97 02-28-2008 11:13 PM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

No I am @ 300 even on the trip meter and my meter is barely above E. what is going on.....? ahhhhhhhhhh

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

jeepwm69, so you are loosing about 10% when drive 70-75 vs 55-60, that sounds about right...

i get around 27-28 on the highway. I know i can so so much better, but i cant resisit pushing it sometimes.

00AccordLX5spd 02-29-2008 08:32 AM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

Last time I got 35mpg on the highway was when I took about a 500 or so mile drive. I probably averaged 75mph. At times I would be doing 85 or so, if I got into heavy traffic I had to slow down to like 60 or 65. But most of the time my cruise was set between 75 & 80.

19Accord97 I'm still kind of stumped. Let me think about it for a while and see if I can come up with anything.

jeepwm69 02-29-2008 09:14 AM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

Yeah, but I tried driving slower and couldn't stand it. I do about 3K/month on the 93 traveling for my job, so a lot of time I'm on a bit of a schedule. Occasionally I have to travel the small two lane highways where the speed limit is 55 and I notice my mileage goes up. I have also noticed that any kind of strongwind can play a big part in my MPG. Headwind will take off 3-4 mpg, where a good tail wind can add that many.
Anyone using fuel with a lot of ethanol willlose some MPG (in myexperience). 19accord97, check air filter, timing, you said you've got newplugs/wires, and you might jack the car up and make sure you aren't getting drag from abrake that isn't releasing all the way or something else keeping a wheel from freely spinning.
Lastly, are you running bigger wheels/tires?That willthrow offyour speedometer, make it appearyou haven't gone asfar as you actually have, and will also rob mpg (added weight).

BlkCurrantKord 02-29-2008 09:56 AM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

19Accord97 - Try any/all of the following.

Change plugs/wires to oem/NGK copper plugs, ditch the platinum crap. Keep an eye on tire pressure. Check/change air filter if you don't have an aftermarket intake. Consider changing the oil. What kind of gas are you filling up with? With white smoke coming out of your exhaust it sounds like you might be burning coolant unless its just the normal look of hot exhaust in cold air. If its thicker white smoke and smells sweet...tada...burning coolant.

Try some of that and see how it goes for 2 weeks and get back to us.

Just for an example...

Even with my ported TB and enlarged ports in my head/intake manifold if I drive aggressively I still get better gas mileage than what you're getting now.

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

1st fill up on 08' V6 AT Coupe and got 22.5mpg, probably 35% hwy, 65% street... no flooring or gunning it as im still breaking in, but probably cruised 72mph-77mph hwy

yeah, I tried to slow down couple times but quit, could not stand that neither...

i get 23 or 24, but its also winter here and i let my car warm up for a good long time, and i have a prelude tranny so i am at 3k at 60mph

19Accord97 02-29-2008 03:47 PM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

Thanks for the response guys.

Few questions though:
How would burning coolant affect mpg?
How would the NGK Double Plats. be bad?

-I've got about 200 miles to change the oil. I use Penzoil High Mileage, and fram TRT filters.
-I fill up w/ 87 that always has a 10% blend of ethanol and ALWAYS go to either Mobil, Shell, or BP.
-I'll smell the exhaust next time, and check for a sweet smell.
-Ive been noticing somewhat of a hissing noise from the engine. Not a strong "PSSSSSSS" sound but more of a ligh "pssshhhh" sound. I'll take a drive today, and try to record it and post it up, but my car is pretty loud w/ wind noise and all of that.
-I'll also try jacking her up and spinning the wheel. I think I have done that before and didnt notice anything.
-Every once and awhile ill here a thump thump that I guess could be a rotor. Usually notice it when I slow down and its not veryoften.
-And I have an intake + catback so mpg should go up a little.

Ethanol sucks all around, my car with 213k on it, not sure about MPG but I get around 36o miles per tank and thats 60% highway.

i come from the supra community, and when you people complain about 26 mpg... i cant imagine getting 26 in the supra... but thats the price for some real speed andRWD:D

I get 18 all the time, something's wrong.
Only a couple hundred miles on this tune-up too.
The code says "Evap purge flow", some $185 vacum part from the stealership.

I usta get 23 around town and 27 on the highway though, maybe someday I'll have that back. :D

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

i get about 23 mpg too...
although im not really surprised. I do a LOT of short trips. literally, this is basically all my car gets driven:

wake up, get ready, drive 3 miles to school
-45 minutes later-
drive 5 miles to a different school
-45 minutes later-
drive 5 miles back to the first school
-90 minutes later-
drive 3 miles home

but on thursdays i drive about 22 miles on the freeway to college, and then 22 miles home, so i do get some freeway miles in there. some. and on tuesdays I drive about 10 miles on the freeway to college, then 10 miles home. (different colleges)

about 25 on my '93 with 247K on it. I will get about 28-29 with pure hwy driving.

your evap system could be causing a bad gas milage. I had a crappy car where when i dropped the tank i didn't disconnet the orvr valve and it resulted in either a 550 dollar part or bad gas milage i took the milage because i wasn't about to drop the tank again on that thing. and to answere 19accord97 check your fuel filter, look for vacuum leaks, your cat could also be clogged to test that floor your car for about 3-5 seconds then slam on the brakes 3 times really had right after annother if your pedal goes to the floor bad cat. You can do a injector cleaning your baskets could also be clogged resulting in bad fuel economy. If you have access to a 5 gas analyzer i would hook taht sniffer up to see where you are sitting you can tell alot by looking at the HC, CO, Co2, NOX, and O2. I don't remember off the top of my head all the things to look for but that was my best class in UTI (untrained idiots) emissions is fun and easy and you get to screw people when they aren't passing =) well i don't screw them but you can heh. But try fuel injector cleaner not the one from the auto store but the one that has a 16oz canister that you pressureize to your systems fuel pressure the inline hook up from the fuel line. It is like 90-120 for a dealer to do it but it is well worth it. I did it on the POS i drove to school and increased my gas milage from 20 to 25. Hope this helped

28+ MPG on the last tank.

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

drove to and from san antonio from dallas, got 400 miles for the tank both ways, translating to 30.88mpg

that's 85% highway, 15% city.

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

Last weekend, I went on a ski trip to VT. We rented a Suburban. We drove about 500 miles and spent $110 on gas. Assuming that gas was between $3 and $3.20 per gallon, we got between 13.64 and 14.55 MPG. Not bad for almost all highway driving!!!!

Hit the gas!!! Hear it gulp!!!! ...... 6000 lb. road-tank

tcheema 03-05-2008 10:32 AM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

How does 400 miles translate to 30.88 mpg, according to your calculations you have a 13 gallon tank, I thought all the Accords have a 17.1 gallon tank? Do the I-4s have smaller tanks?

drummer1279 03-05-2008 11:04 AM

RE: What kind of gas mileage you get?

no they are 17 gallons but you can only squeeze about 13 or so gallons out of it, the other 4 gallons keep the fuel pump from crapping out from vapor lock.
