Default Why did a DODGE NEON beat me off the line.. twice

Why did a DODGE NEON stx beat me off the line.. twice? I've been driving a stick for ever. My car HAS to be more powerful than the neon, no? I'm not trying to race people. But, I'm at least trying to move off the line quicker than a damn Dodge rent-a-car. I just put in new plugs this weekend (irridiums) and I celaned my fuel injectors last week. Are automatics quicker off the line than Manuals? I thought the opposite?

I dont know offhand what the hp is ona Neon. Maybe its geared better? Im sure its lighter than an Accord also, so that helps it. Was it a really a rental? If not, was it stock?

It looked like a rental. It had the "enterprise rental" plate on the back. Dayum annoying though. My old 88 mazda 2.2liter was quicker off the line. (it had built in turbo which gave me that push in 3-4 gear) but off the line... 1-2-3 gear..she was quicker. My car feels like it trying hard in 1-2-3 gear. She's smooth...but not hardy off the line. Short ram intake time?

In my opinion the auto tranny will almost always get off the line first regardless of which car it is. There's only one motion.....step on the go pedal. In a stick you are working two pedals and trying not to spin the tires while still getting a decent launch. That split second of coordination gives the auto an advantage.

I dont know that a short ram will give you much help off the line. When I put mine on, I could mostly feel it in the upper revs of 2nd and 3rd, like above 3k RPM. Did you get a good launch both times?

i used to "co-own" a 96 neon with 300hp, so theres def some potential in those little cars. i miss her, we had to get her crushed cause we didnt want to sell it to anyone. got about 56 bucks for the scrap steel

Decent launch both times. I guess the neon was, like mentioned above, lighter and auto-quicker-matic. Frustrating though. and Fenix, 300 HP on a neon. WOW! I doubt this had 300 HP, but it would make me feel better if I knew it did.

What would possess you to crush a car that you could sell and make some decent money on? Was it stolen or something?

Why do I have a feeling I would still lose with a porche. Maybe it's my stick ability. Am I not shifting fast enough? That reminds me. What the hell is a short stick. (I'm leaving myself wide open on that, I know). So please remind me of the advantages of Manual. Other than gas and cornering.
