Default Wiper Travel Adjustment?

A few weeks ago, I posted a question about removing the wiper arms to adjust them because they were banging...maybe from an ice-d up windshield. Well I got the arms off but it seems that I can't adjust the arms...especially the driver's side... so that they don't bang either at the top or bottom.

Maybe the original problem was slipping from the motor spindle or linkage. Can you reduce the travel of the arms by playing with the linkage rods from the motor? I have the Helm manual but don't want to start playing with this if it won't solve the problem.

Thanks!

There is no real adjustment on the wiper motor linkage.
At this point I'm wondering if the arms have been switched or the blade insert is wrong.
Longer blade should be on the passenger side.

Remove the acorn nut (14mm) holding the whole wiper arm on and reinstall it back on the spline until you get it where you want it.

Does one or both of the arms have a lot of play in them? The wiper rod bushings might be worn out.

As a follow up and helpful hint to others, I removed the wiper assembly to see why the wipers banged on top and bottom of the cycle.12" rods off the motorconnect to thewiper armsand are then held in place with little plastic button caps. The holes in the rods are larger than the pins for the arms and the caps keep everything centered and locked into place. The capholding one of the rods was cracked and this was causingfree play in the rod and wiper.

Of course you can't buy the 25c cap but have to purchase one of the rod assemblies (or both if needed).[:@] While each is only about $15, its a special order and alot more than 25c for the cap.

If your wipers bang and you can't seem to get them adjusted, and you can move the wiper arms up and down abit by hand in the off position, that's your problem.

Thanks for the feedback. It's nice to find out what the actual fix was.
