Wipers go too far !

I've got a '99 Accord EX 4-door. Every so often, the wipers will go too far "left" (when sitting in car) and if I'm driving on the highway, they've actually went OFF the windshield !!

Is this something that could be "adjusted" in the linkage or is it likely a motor problem ?

Check whether the nut holding the wiper arm (#19) is loose. If so, you can reposition the arm & re-tighten. Probably want to remove the arm & clean out any metal shavings from the tapered hole & the knurled shaft.

Otherwise you gotta go diving below the cowling to look for loose linkages (#9, 10, etc) (they've got something like balljoints) that drive the wipers.

When I looked for a replacement wiper motor (I suspect the motor is fine and it's a linkage problem), they always listed bushings as "related items". Does Honda not use bushings since they have tapered and knurled shafts ? Actually, they have *both* ? I'd think one or the other would be sufficient.

you should make sure that the nut is not loose before anything else..

if nut is tight, you can grab the arm and see how much movement it has ,, if very little, remove the arm and reposition it and tighten the nut..

if a lot of movement,, chk the linkages or linkage assembly # 9, 10, 8

I haven't used a wrench on it yet, but using my fingers, I can't budge it. I realize that's not a good test so I will use a wrench or socket before I proceed.

Check them and what ? Are they adjustable ?

The nuts appear to be properly tight. What I noticed when I pulled the cowling up was the hole in, I think, #9 or #10 (though they don't appear to have holes) appear to be opened up too big. Or, is the hole a "cam" type hole that creates the swiping motion ? I could be completely wrong though...

I think the ends of #9 & #10 are supposed to have some kind of ball & socket arrangement. Sounds like maybe parts of that (plastic socket bushings?) is missing. If the plastic socket broke & fell out, then you probably have to buy the pushrod #9 or #10.
