Default 2005 Accord LX - Slow Acceleration and Low Gas Mileage

Whassup everyone?

I've been trying to find answers online about this issue but cant seem to get anywhere with it. Hoping to get some answers here..

Anyways, i have a 2005 Accord Coupe 4-cyl with about 76,000 miles on it. Over past year or so, ive noticed a decline in acceleration and the gas mileage is just crap now! I get anywhere from 20-22 in the city and 24-25 on the highway. When i first got it, it was 24-26 in the city and 28-30 on the highway.

As far as the acceleration goes, it has been picking up VERY slow! The RPM is up to 3000-4000, but speed doesn't pick up. I noticed it more recently since i drove my girlfriend's to work. She has the 03 Accord Coupe 4cyl with 83,000 miles. Her car picks up significantly quicker and smoother.

I have been doing oil changes regularly and check my tires regularly.

I also recently Sea Foamed my car but didnt help much which is surprising because it seems like Sea Foam has helped everyone else!

Im very reluctant to take the car to the dealership since they take your whole life savings!

Thanks for your helps guys!

I would try getting a fuel injection service at like a lube express or somewere. Basically they will clean out your fuel system and clean the fuel injectors. They can possibly be blocked up with dirt and crap. It's also good to use a bottle of Fuel injector cleaner when you fill up your gas. I personally use Lucas Injector Cleaner every once and a while. It's like $4 a bottle. Also have you gotten a tune up lately? And worst comes to worst you can try a compression test.

Automatic? Can you feel the tranny shifting normally? Is the engine revving to 3-4K and tranny not/slow shifting? Or is the engine slow to pick up revs, and tranny shifts ok?

Yeah, its an Automatic.

Shifting seems ok. I did some more research today after reading the last post. I found a place that does
  1. Engine Treatment
    • Protects against wear and friction
    • Improves mileage and prolongs engine life
  2. Fuel System Cleaner
    • Restores power and performance to the engine
    • Increases gas mileage
  3. Oil System Cleaner
    • Fresh oil deserves a Fresh Start
    • Cleans deposits from depleted oil
Does this seem like it would be worth the money to try?? I didnt call the company to see how much it costs yet. Im assuming at least 200-300 bucks.

Now you're talking. Tune up sounds like a good idea. Are you running on original spark plugs? If yes - replace them. There's a maintenance schedule for your car somewhere on this forum. Engine light on?

It has to be a tune up lol. They are not expensive since you have a 4cyl. Make sure that for the spark plugs the use NGKs.

You could have a dragging brake or a sticky brake caliper. This would easily explain both of your problems.

Dont go somewhere to have a fuel injection cleaning service. All they do is Seafoam your car....if that. I would run the car near empty, put in a bottle of Techron, run a good 20 some miles, fill up, and see if that increases the MPG. After you get low repeat the same thing once more.

. No engine light
. Everything is in its original state. I bought the car brand new, and nothing's been changed under the hood except for the battery (using OEM battery).
. I called the Honda dealership to get a price range. They said $299 for a tuneup.. They told me they would change the spark plugs and wires. Seems a bit pricey for just changing those things out? Is there anything else that they should be doing or will do?
