Default '97 Honda Accord EX

Car specs: 1997 Honda Accord EX 4DR 2.2L V-TEC, 5SPD Manual. 260,000 Miles

I have had this car for 5 years. Running like a champ, using it to get back in forth from work in school. In great shape for its age and usage. Almost all highway miles. Previous owner traveled and I drive long distances as well. Anyway about my problem......Recently the headers cracked in half in one position not as a whole yet but it's getting there.

1) What are some recommendations on headers? My friend said a 4-2-1 performance set would increase my gas mileage which would be great since a drive a ton but feedback would be appreciated!
2) While i'm under the hood should I change anything else out like the intake if the headers will be different? Anything else?
3) What brand of spark plugs do you recommend?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

NGK spark plugs. Even with header and/or intake, you're not doing enough to need special plugs.

I'm cynical about performance mods giving you better gas milage. Maybe it's theoretically true, but you'll find it hard to resist using your right foot. And that right foot is what REALLY controls MPG.

So anyway, your manifold is cracked. Junkyard for a new stock manifold? If you wanna get a NEW manifold, then you'll probably find a header is cheaper.

how much do you have and or want to to spend on a header? Bisimoto can make a header for you and you will gain nice power and also gas mileage.

But as Jim said your foot is your MPG maker. If you don't want to spend much go to the pick and pull or junk yard and get a OEM manifold for like 60bucks.

Default MPG and Price

Your right, the right foot does control the MPG but with me light footing it and just driving it around I was normally get 400miles per tank (420 before they changed the gasoline) and it randomly dropped 50miles or more which is a big deal when I drive so much. Plugs are last year I would suspect they are good still (NGK) will replace and check plug wires. But even with the age of the car, i'd be willing to spend up to $100 give or take a few, I think it still has lots of life. Thanks guys.

with your price range your best bet is to go to a pick n pull or junk yard and get a manifold of another accord.
