Engine shuts off when stock airbox removed?

Engine shuts off when stock airbox removed?
I noticed that my car will not run (ie the engine shuts itself off) when you remove the stock airbox which houses the sensor and the stock air filter unit. So I'm wondering how I am going to install a CAI - since the car will not run without the stock unit attached. Is there some way that a CAI would relocate the air sensor unit and prevent the engine from shutting down? Or is the 07 Accord too smart now for aftermaket parts??

Do you mean you took out the whole stock airbox assembly from the throttle body forward? I would not want to run my engine with no filter at all -you could suck all kinds of crap into the trottle body. On the 2000 there is a small breather tube that has to be hooked up to the SRI or CAI. Could that be the problem? Can you post a picture?

I didn't remove the whole airbox, and run the engine like that. I had a feeling that the engine wouldn't run with an aftermarket intake, b/c the mass airflow sensor is attached to the top of it. So I simply disconnected the clamp around the intake tube , and let it breath open air for a moment with the car sitting, and the engine then shut off on its own. So unless a SRI or CAI includes a way to reattach the MAF sensor unit, I know that it's just not gonna work.

sorry if that was confusing, i meant the MAF sensor that sits on top of the stock airbox. When that gets bypassed, the engine quits. So does an aftermarket unit have a way to reattach this sensor?

Umm....what year is your accord? if you have a 7th gen (04+), most manufacturers have already converted their air intake tube designs. There's actually a lil slot on top of the intake tube where your MAF sits and regulates.

what did you mean by "converted their air intake tube designs"?
the sensor sits in a little cut out, it's screwed in. I have an 07 Coupe.
Do you all know of any CAI or SRI that would fit my car? I can't find anything for my year on the web.

that sensor a maf? sounds like a iat sensor to me... but maybe not. i just thought all or most mafs were in the tube section positioned in the center of the tube... good luck

I thought the 07's were the same as the 06's but I could be wrong. I would think an intake for an 06 would fit your 07, but I am not positive. Go look at some pics of 06 models and 07 models on eBay. Most auctions have pics. If your engine looks identical to an 06's engine, then an intake for an 06 would work.
