RE: header and exhaust install?
ORIGINAL: poser_pilot6 So Im planning on getting a header and exhaust hopefully in the next couple months. From what I have read on here, OBX makes a good header and the Apexi WS2 is a good, mellow exhaust, so those are what Im planning to purchase. How difficult is it to install these items myself? Im really limited on my budget and would like to do the work myself. Or maybe with a couple friends, since I can pay them in six packs lol. Anyone have first hand experience? Any pointers? |
RE: header and exhaust install?
Im not really worried about hearing my exhaust. An sri is my first mod, since my engine is completely stock, and I dont really want to shell out for a CAI and bypass valve right now. What tools am I gonna need to do this? Do I NEED a blowtorch, or can I do it all with hand tools?

RE: header and exhaust install?
Well you dont really need anything special, a blow torch will just make it quick and simple. If you just use hand tools, then Liquid Wrench will be your lifesaver. Just make sure you spray all the bolts...the earlier you do this, the easier everything will come off. Although, your car will probably smoke a little, since I had little pools of it on the stock manifold. And make sure you have a pipe to sitck on a wrench when you get a bolt thats frozen together. When you have the exhaust off, make sure the rubber hangers are in good condition...you dont want to hear your exhaust vibrating. They are about 3-4 dollars if you need them. Mine seemed fine but I replaced two of them just because.
One last thing, with my WS2 there is a rattling noise when i put my car in reverse or let off the gas suddenly and it does this worse when its warm. I discovered that there is a point where it is really close to a bolt, therefore causing the noise. Its not really annoying to me but I did pretty much fix it. I put some ATV sealant and covered the bolt that was hitting the exhaust. It worked for a week, but then I had to do it again and now every great once in awhile I will hear it. I hope that doesnt scare you though, b/c I havent heard of anyone else with that problem so it may just be my car. |

RE: header and exhaust install?
19Accord97, which header did you get, the stainless or ceramic? These are the two different ones I have found on eBay
Stainless = $165 shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-E...QQcmdZViewItem Ceramic = $152 shipped http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OBX-C...QQcmdZViewItem |
RE: header and exhaust install?
I would think that either one of those would work great. It is just your personal preference.
Ceramic disperses heat better but the metal can rust. Stainless holds in more heat but shouldn't rust. |
