I've got a 2.4L 5speed Accord Coupe, I just bought it, an 07. I am very happy with it, but I'd like to squeeze a few more hp out of the engine.

A local racing shop here in Sacramento can install a Tanabe exhaust, and a CAI. They told me I could expect 15 wheel hp from these two mods.

I wanted to run this by everyone and see if this was realistic. The shop dyno runs all of their cars before and after, they said the 2007 Civic SI with the

same setup added 20 wheel hp, but that is a more tuned engine, so mine would probably not be as high. Any opinions?

from what i read, 15is probablya little much w/ cai and exhaust. what does the exhaust setup look like? catback or headerback? i think a header, high flow cat, and good catback would get you close.

There will be some gain but I find 15 HP at the wheels to be extremely optimistic.

15 WHP is extremely optimistic as the above have stated. Maybe if you had the V6. Tell you what...ask the shop to dyno your car before and after...with you watching. If you don't get 15 WHP no $ to them. LOL I know that is not realistic either. No shop in their right mind would agree to that. How much do they plan on charging you for the work?

Either way the bottom line is that you will see some gains. How much you'll see is a different story. Even if it's only 10 HP I think it's worth it (you'll feel the difference at 10hp) Ask them if they have any dyno's from that motor where they've done the same upgrades in the past.

I am also very interested in how much they are planning to carge you for the work. Especially installing the CAI which is super easy to DIY.

They charge 90/hour. But if I buy theparts and have them install them in the shop they will put it on the dyno before and after for free. I have to purchase the parts through the shop and they said they'd charge 1 1/2 hour labor, so about 135 for the exhaust and CAI. Mostly I just want to see it on the dyno. They have records of both the RSX and Civic Si making about 20 wheel hp with just exhaust and intake. They dyno all their cars before and after any mods. It seems like the 2.4 Accord would have some potential, right, since it's fairly restricted at only 166 factory hp. I mean, the Si has a much smaller engine and makes 197 hp (although much less torque).

save up some money for a chip, and a camshaft (around a 272 duration), then you can do the intake and exhaust and notice a lot of gains. Of course it all depends on your budget.
A long tube header would really only benefit for a modified engine, a shorty header would be great for a factory engine, and a less restrictive exhaust will increase exhaust velocity, and of course you can tune the sound of the exhaust by removing the resonator and changing the muffler.
i guess it all depends on what you really want to do with the car, chips however are the best bang for your buck.

ok please people a chip? THEY DONT MAKE CHIPS FOR K SERIES!!!!
Cams? really so 1000 bux for a descent cam and install? yeh right...

The exhaust and intake will probably do wonders... Kseries engines can receive close to 60 WHP with simple bolt ons (not turbo) the intake and exhaust systems are small and restrictive (but the factory equal length headers are NICE!!!) there are records of NA civics with 197 crank HP... throwing 240 to the ground thats 60+ WHP from just bolt on no internals...

15HP is probably right... maby even a understatement... if you ever look at the true routing of the intake on a K series accord is ridiculous... it goes to the air box down to a GIANT resonator... under the subframe and then up to RIGHT behind the radiator... so not only does it give the car horrid throttle response but it flows way WAY to slow... a CAI/SRI will allow GREAT flow... and much faster throttle response... now the exhaust is just evil for the car... its a big 4 banger with 1 3/4 Outside diameter tube... (probably close to 1 5/8ths on the inside) so a 2ish inch pipe will flow great

FWIW, you can get the camshaft reground to a higher duration at a competent engine machine shop for around 250 dollars, it will still even pass smog for the amount they will do it, and wont really affect your idle unless you start going to lumpy camshafts with high overlap and duration (284 degrees+).
