Throttle body carbon buildup??
Justhad the routine service done by the Honda dealer on our 04 Accord EX. The service writer said the tech noticed acarbon buildup on the throttle body. They wanted $89 to clean the throttle body.
I know this would belong in a different forum however they also they wanted $69 to change/flush the power steering fluid....is that a normal issue after 4 years??

RE: Throttle body carbon buildup??
Telling you your throttle body is dirty is a common ploy grease monkeys use to get you to waste your money for them to "clean" it. All they do is add something like seafoam (under $10 at auto parts stores), then they charge you someithing like $100. Changing the PS fluid after only 4 years seems a little overkill to me too. I would check the fluid myself and see if it is even dirty. Sounds to me like your dealer is trying to rip you off...

I wouldn't flush the PS fluid either ..... if it needs to be changed, go buy a turkey baster and some new fluid. If you're neurotic like me, do it 2 or 3 times a week apart.

And then charge you more to bleed the air out lol.
If you are mechanically inclined you can take off the intake tube and spray carb/intake cleaner in there and then open the butterfly with the car off and scrub the carbon and wipe it out. Might be difficult if the '04 has drive-by-wire like my moms Acura does... the butterflys with servos on them seem hard to open.
BUT, my instinct tells me they just want more money and that there probably isn't much carbon build up anyways. My 14 year old Accord didn't even have that much carbon...
