Hi all, totaled my baby 2005 Mazda 3s loaded. Drove it off the log with 8 miles on it in July of 05. Totaled it on Jan 8 2014 with 137,000 miles just paid off the previous june. Replaced it with an incredible 2006 Honda accord V6 hybrid with 100,000 even. Im in love all over again. For those that dont know the 05-07 the Accord Hybrid Is the most powerful(255hp) & the highest trim available Having all options standard, including Hybrid only amber turn signals in the side mirrors as well. Two Hybrid only colors, mine is the incredible silver frost metallic(silver/w a strong blue flake) also LED tail lights(hybrid only) and then the normal leather, power seats, power moon roof, heated front seats & side mirrors, automatic dualzone climate control.
The Hybrid only sold 6,000 units in 06 because power enthusiasts would not think the Hybrid is the most powerful in the line up and Eco friendly didn't think the 34mpg was worth the sizable madkup. It was a car before its time, the IMA system was used to give the car 100lb ft extra torque on demand not save fuel. Fuel savings came from auto stop(shutting down the motor at full stops) and VCM(variable cylinder management) that shuts down 3cyl at cruise. The electric motor paired with active motor mounts spins the engine up both at star & from auto stop quickly & super smooth. None of the normal crank sound you get from a normal car. You turn the key & its just on, you really have to experience it. Same with auto stop, at a stop light the engine turns off switching to an electric a/c compressor & accessory system, take your foot off the break & again its just on no noticable lag.
The system is now being used in both formula one & the McLaren P1 under the name "torque fill" but it is mechanically the exact same system putting a small electric motor between the enging and transmission. The effect gives the vehicle almost full torque through the entire RPM range makeing the standard & easily turned off with the push of a button(great for Smokey burn outs) very nessary. It was really a great find and a Whole lot of people missed an incredible vehicle. The 05 has no sun roof & a fix-a-flat & pump system instead of a speare tire. Both were added in the 06-07 so id look for those years. But if you can find one with low miles & in good shape grab it. Take it for a test drive, you'll be hooked. The thing is an absolute rocket it never stops pulling, any time the engine is at low RPM or shifting the electric motor is right there continuing to pull giving it the feel of a CVT(its a 5 speed auto).
They had a high sticker price, highest of all Accords of that generation & like all Hondas hold value so despite the age they Blue Book from $13,000-$16, 000 a lot for an 06 in 2014, but again give one a test drive its worth every penny. It also has a 6 disk in dash Cd(the only option was NAV) and along with the active engine mounts it has front to rear sound damping material, and ANC(active nosie canclitation) it listens to the ambient noise & emits a counter freq(again hybrid only so customers didn't complain of a rougher run in Eco Aka 3cyl mode) so its DEAD quiet inside. Ok rant oved but seriously if you find one give it a test drive. They didn't come back until 2014.
