94 Accord EX Wagon - Keep or sell?
Hi All,
I'm new here and don't want to risk re-posting an exhausted subject. I couldn't find any posts on this particular topic, so here goes:
I have a 94 Accord EX 5 Speed Manual. I am the second owner. We have both babied this car and aside from the typical Honda fender rust, this car is in great condition. The interior is in practically mint condition (except for floor mats and a few tears in the roof material). Fabric and all other materials are clean and scratch-free. This is a pretty rare car (I can't find one for sale anywhere). I'm trying to decide whether to keep it and garage it for a few years or offer it for sale. And if so, how much should I ask? I got what I consider to be a great deal on it ($3500). Any thoughts? Thanks y'all!

Well wagons in with the 5 speed are cool cars.
The rust is a big problem to many people wanting that car.
How long ago did you buy it? I would say you could get around $2,000 for it today if you sold it.
I always have my eyes open for a 93 or older wagon with a bad drivetrain in it for less than $1,000 with no rust.
As soon as I find one like that I would put my 97 motor and 5 speed trans in it and have a cool car.

I'm one that likes to have a "spare" car around for whatever life brings my way....which I guess somewhere I did something really bad as life seems to bring me a ton.
Anyway, with that said. If you can, insurance, tags, space/room and that.....I would keep it. Start it every 2 to 3 weeks, let it get to op temp....a drive around the block would also be a good idea. Then if something ever happens, you know you can jump in it and go.
My two cents.

First of all, welcome to the forums!
I recently bought an Accord wagon EX (mine is a 1997). Based on your description, it isn't in as good of condition as yours. I paid $2100 for it 2 months ago.
The Accord wagons are definitely not common. Here in Atlanta, I'll see one or two for sale each week on Craigslist. There's one guy who has been trying to sell his for a few weeks now. He seems to have reached his rock bottom price of $3k.
I don't know if you can get much more than $2500 - 3000 for a wagon of that vintage with a little rust. Someone may have unnatural wagon-lust and be willing to pay more but by and large I don't think you're going to be able to make a fortune on selling yours.
By the way, I'd love to see some pics of your wagon. Post a few if you get a chance. Thanks!

You can bet there's not a large population of buyers beating the bushes for early 90's SW's. They are waiting for guys like us who have a soft spot for wagons (yes, I'm one also). I had a Toyota Corolla Wagon w/ 5 spd manual for years and really hated to part w/ it.
Something about the Accord wagons appeals to me, but I've been looking at later model hatchbacks and mini-wagons. I like the Pontiac Vibe, what I would call a mini-wagon.
If you can get $2000, I think you've done well. A $3000 price will garuntee no sale for many months.
good luck

Thanks for all the good input. I think all of you helped me answer my question. Fact is, I love the car and, although the general consensus is that I'd be lucky to fetch 3k, she's worth at least twice that to me. I think I definitely have a wagon fetish. The car holds a lot (including a 12" sub) and is a great commuter car. It's awesome for camping 'cause I can fold the seats down and sleep in there if the weather gets bad enough. Acceleration isn't the best, but I can't complain. Here are some pix I shot this morning.
By the way, the side shot is her "bad side". The other side doesn't have nearly the same amount of rust and no dent. Oh, and she could use a wash and wax, but I got kids = no free time.

Bought it about 2 years ago. I had to replace the entire instrument cluster a few months ago but I saved the old one. If I did the math on total mileage between the old one and the new one, I would say we're up to about 215,000.
Hi, I am also new to this forum and I am also in the same dilemma. I have 00 Accord SE. A bit of history, I bought this car about 3 years ago with 80K and now just passed 111K. Within these years. I replaced the front wheel bearings at 90K. Timing belt kit, including water pump and all the belts and head gasket replaced. And so I have no major complaints about the car except that its old but still runs good and the engine is loud. I am in my late 20s. So i was wondering should I get a another newer/sportier car or should I just keep this run it till it dies.
Hey RedAccord00,
My feeling is, there are always lots of factors to consider when it comes to making a decision about purchasing a newer (or new) car when the one you have is in good running condition. Yes, there are definitely faster, quieter, more exciting cars out there, but if you've performed all the scheduled maintenance and have kept your OO accord in good shape, it should be a pretty reliable car for years to come. I guess it's all a matter of how much you want to sacrifice, financially and priorities. I bought an 06 Accord V6 manual sedan. I've always wanted it. It's quiet, fast and comfortable for my whole family. However, I did save for years and bought the car outright. Personally, I hate car payments. You may regret that you sold the 00 after you start getting nailed with months of car payments.
On the other hand, life is short. If you've been dreaming of getting a nice, newer car, go for it! Got any choice rides in mind?
