Default buying an accord

Hello,
I am looking at a 96 Accord EX 2dr. It has 68,000 miles on it and an
ATX. I have yet to see it in person, but it's all stock except for a
junky cd player. The only upgrade I believe is leather seats. The seller
has not answered me whether or not it is a Vtec or not.

The price seems right to me.

I just have a few questions about this generation of accords-
-Are there any major malfuntions or recalls with the 96?
-How much HP does the engine have? (Vtec an non Vtec)
-I've seen this generation of accord without the inside tail lights, is
that trunk a perfect fit for the one with the inside tail lights? (this
car has the inside tail lights, but I personally think it looks better
without them)

What year would you reccomend I look at in the price range of the 96.
(5,000 give or take)

I am currently driving a 93 mazda 626 and I love it but I have a chance
to get a new car so I think I'm going to take it. I've researched alot
about my 626 and found out that the 93 transmission was made by mazda and
is the best transmission a 626 has ever seen. in the same generation of
626's 94-97 versions have a Ford built transmission that usually dies
before 100K. I am wondering if there are any faults for the 96 like this?

It is one of the later years of the generation which could mean one of
two things- 1) they improved all the things that went wrong in earlier
years OR 2) they decided that this generation was not good and started over.

My gf has a 95? i believe its a 95 accord 4dr. not sure what model spec
it is, but she didnt pass inspection and had to get a completly new
exhaust system. the car seems a little too heavy for the motor so it
drives pritty clunky or so it seems from the passenger seat. My 626 is
extremely light so maybe I'm just not used to this sensation.

Anyways, I plan on doing a few mods to the car, CAI, Catback, Strut bars,
and a few cosmetic mods as well, nothing too flasy on the outside just a
new grille, tints, projectors, euro tails, small spoiler, if i have the
money maybe a lip kit. I don't liek the look of any of the body kit's
i've found, I'ld liek to make it looks classy rather than sporty. Well
any info would be very much appreciated, sorry for writting so much.

Default RE: buying an accord

Well, just to give you the briefest idea of how reliable those old Accords are, we have a 1994 Accord LX five speed that participates in Honda Challenge series.

The motor has 250,000 miles on it and has never even had the head off. Gearbox going strong, too. 1996 was the first year that Honda put a V6 in an Accord, and the front chassis was changed a little in order to fit the motor in.

Except for the V6, the motors are the usual F motors, 125 HP LX and 135 HP EX. Just check it over as you would any used car. There are no special things to speak badly of these old Accords, and a lot to speak well of them.
